Environmentally-conscious Dane County, Wisconsin is the logical place to create a sustainable village that will set an example for the rest of the country, and we've found the perfect location just a stone's throw from Madison! This beautiful setting with 250 acres on a gentle, south-facing slope can become Fitchburg Fields -- an economic, educational and agricultural jewel just 5 miles from the Capitol Square.
Help us turn this beautiful farmland...
...into a model for sustainable agriculture. (See map below)
Fitchburg Fields will be an inspiring example for people who want to learn how to live sustainably in a changing world. This timely project grew out of the innovative programs offered by the Intervale Center in Burlington, Vermont and will become an educational example of what every large community in the country will need as we respond to global climate change by reducing our carbon footprint for housing, transportation and food.
Fitchburg Fields will be one of the first centers to integrate: a learning center for teaching and practicing small-scale, organic agriculture including a working farm; an eco-village for sharing sustainable living and cutting edge solutions for energy, water and land use in a living classroom; a year-round Farmers' Market; and other related amenities.
By bringing together a broad coalition of groups that share our goals and by inviting other communities to learn from our experience, we can bring about a transition to a sustainable society.
